What is ADHD and how can this and/or ADHD coaching help?
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition, not a mental health condition as some people assume. However, ADHD can lead to mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression.
ADHD impacts the working memory, emotional regulation and executive function of our brains. This means that those with ADHD have issues in things such as impulsivity, planning and organisation.
What therefore helps someone with ADHD is being able to borrow the executive function of another person, which is where ADHD coaching and Psychoeducation and training comes in.
ADHD Coaching is practical support that works collaboratively with ADHD clients to address specific executive function goals they may struggle with such as focus, prioritisation, time management and motivation.
The goal is to assist those with ADHD to be able to execute the tasks that they are most struggling with.
ADHD medication is helpful for the majority of those with ADHD and we do recommend to try to see whether it works for you as can really help with impulsivity and emotional regulation.
ADHD medication doesn’t give you strategies, support and understanding, which is where ADHD coaching steps in.
This is done through a specific lens with understanding with accountability.
It helps those with ADHD understand themselves better plus gives them strategies that work best for their ADHD brain. The majority of coaching and therapy strategies are often not as effective for those with ADHD as they have been created with the neurotypical brain in mind and are much more cognitive in nature. ADHD brains work better with strategies that are more emotion based.
The impact of ADHD can mean that our strengths are undiscovered. Within ADHD coaching we will find out what they are and use them to tackle the challenges you face as well as boosting what you’re best at.
You are the best expert of your life so we will always go by what you tell us will work best.
ADHD coaching builds empowerment, bravery, confidence, authenticity and acceptance with the realisation that you are not broken needing to be fixed, just different needing to be understood. Differences are to be embraced!!
Recent testimonial:
‘Michelle really listened and gave the space to talk and think through what I was trying to articulate. Michelle is a very intelligent person and the discussions we had were based on that premise. Michelle treated me like an intelligent person too. We established what I was seeking from the outset. I looked forward to our sessions as I valued Michelle’s methods of unpicking and then repeating back to me what my thoughts were. It gave me the space and a clear head to think and be clear about certain things and understand the real questions I was raising, not the ones I thought I was asking. Michelle is very perceptive, able to use exercises to demonstrate the why of behaviours. She helped me to frame the right questions of myself and of others. It helped me to have a very level and grounded view of the areas I wanted to talk through. Michelle herself is very calming and gives you a sense of her investment in you. I will definitely use Michelle again and recommend you to do too!!!’

Michelle knows all too well the minefield of getting an ADHD diagnosis and the lack of support afterwards so has created this for those at the early stages of awareness so you don’t have to go through the same. She suffered so you don’t have to so much.
This awareness session will give you support, confidence and someone who understands you, which is incredibly validating.
Email amanda@findyourspark.co.uk with any further questions.
Michelle also offers these sessions as adhoc ADHD support for anyone who prefers one to one rather than groups to help you learn, unpick and signpost those at the early stages of the ADHD journey. This can be to do with anything ADHD related including Access to Work, funding support and help with prioritising goals.
This can be done online or in person.
